What are CEREC same-visit crowns?

If you’re in a hurry or just don’t want to wait two or three weeks to get a traditional crown, we’re pleased to offer the convenience of CEREC same-visit crowns.

CEREC is the acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. This method uses CAD/CAM manufacturing to create a crown that perfectly fits your damaged tooth.

Instead of having an outside lab create your restoration, we fabricate it right here in our dental office during a single appointment. You don’t have to wait for weeks or wear a temporary crown because you will leave our office with your new CEREC crown in place.

We also use CEREC technology to fabricate crowns for implants, inlays and onlays, and veneers.

A smiling woman | dentist in Vienna, VA

CEREC same-day dental crowns in Vienna, VA, are convenient, durable, and beautiful. They also have many benefits to make life easier!

We are thrilled to offer same-day tooth crowns to our patients.

What Are CEREC Same-Day Crowns?

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that fit over a tooth treated by the dentist. Crowns ...

I don’t like having impressions taken. How does CEREC technology help?

Remember the last time you had impressions and had to bite down a big metal tray filled with messy impression putty? You had to wait for the material to set, wait to see if the impression was usable, and if not, you had to go through the process again.

At Tysons Dentistry, CEREC technology eliminates this uncomfortable step, and taking impressions is as simple as passing a small, handheld scanner over your teeth. The scanner captures digital impressions that our dentists use with CEREC software to create a 3-D digital model of your teeth and design your new crown.

How does the process for placing CEREC same-visit crowns work?

Once we have agreed that a CEREC crown is the right solution for you, we start by preparing your tooth just as we would for a traditional crown. But that’s where the similarity ends!

Instead of messy paste impressions, our dentists use a handheld scanner to take comfortable digital impressions of your teeth that are used to prepare a 3-D model. Digital impressions allow us to design your crown within a software program and transmit the information to a milling machine in our dental office. While you wait for your new restoration, you can sit back and relax with your favorite music or TV show.

The machine works like a 3-D printer to customize your new crown from a block of ceramic.

When your crown is finished, our dentists check it for fit, then polish it and cement it in place. You will leave our Vienna, VA dental office with a new crown that blends beautifully with your healthy smile.

CEREC Crowns

CEREC is a method of CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing) dentistry, which allows the dentist to fabricate and insert restorations (crowns, bridges, etc.) in a single appointment.

How much do CEREC same-visit crowns cost?

A CEREC crown typically costs slightly more to place than a lab-fabricated restoration. But many of our busy patients tell us that not having to disrupt their schedule with multiple visits is well worth the difference in cost.

Some dental insurances may cover a portion of the cost of your CEREC crown, but it’s best to check with them first. We also offer convenient third-party financing options like CareCredit, CitiHealth, and Springstone that allow you to get your new crown today, then pay the balance over several months.

Do you also offer traditional lab-fabricated crowns?

Yes, we also offer highly aesthetic lab-fabricated crowns at our Vienna dental office that are every bit as durable as CEREC crowns. Since we use digital scanning technology, you can still avoid the need for messy impressions.

Before you decide which type of crown is right for you, Dr. Sanati and Dr. Shahram will evaluate your needs, and explain the benefits of both CEREC and lab crowns. If you’re ready to learn more about CEREC, please call us to arrange a consultation.

How should I care for my new CEREC crown?

You should take care of your CEREC crown in the same way you would any other dental restoration. Avoid sticky or chewy foods that might dislodge the crown or break the seal, especially in the first few days after we place it on your tooth.

Your crown can chip or crack under excessive force, so if you have a teeth-grinding habit (bruxism), talk to us about creating a custom nightguard to protect all your teeth as well as your crown.

Be sure to brush and floss daily to eliminate plaque buildup that can lead to gum disease and cause a cavity. Visit our Vienna dental office every six months so our dentists can check your new crown to make sure it’s in good condition alongside your routine dental exam and dental cleanings.

How long will my CEREC crown last at Tysons Dentistry?

Like lab-fabricated crowns, if you care for your CEREC crown properly, it should give you 10 to 15 years of service.
