We have all been there, and we don’t blame you for being tempted. Candy is usually readily available, so it’s easy to give in. But before you bite into that candy bar, here are a few things to consider.
- You already know candy bars are loaded with sugar, but do you have any idea how much sugar you actually consume? A Snickers bar, for example, contains nearly eight teaspoons of sugar. Picture that amount in a little pile in front of you and decide if you really need or want all much sugar in your mouth.
- How soon will you be able to brush? The moment you start eating a candy bar, bacteria that linger on your teeth start to feed on the sugars and produce acid that erodes your teeth. Unless you interrupt this process by brushing, acid just sits on your teeth until you can brush when you get home.
- Could you make a healthier choice? It does require a little planning on your part, but a piece of fresh fruit or a protein like cheese are satisfying and keep all that sugar out of your mouth. Plus, protein has the added benefit of helping you feel full longer.
